Our Love Story
if we’re being completely honest: we met as silly 20-year-olds in our junior year(s) of college doing what most uconn students did on halloween — hanging out around the shabby apartments our friends lived in and drinking alongside hundreds of other costumed undergrads.
becca, while dressed as the flash, chose to be a total ham and run circles around the various groups of people outside until kevin, dressed as The dude from the big lebowski, spotted her and said “hey look, it’s the flash!” — never missing an opportunity to try and be funny, becca stopped and began joking around with kevin.
after finding out we had friends in common, a chance meeting developed into a very goofy friendship — that was once kevin finally remembered becca’s name.
it wasn’t until our senior year(s) that we realized how much we liked each other and began dating.
WE MADE THINGS “OFFICIAL” ON october 21, 2012.
How We Met
The Engagement
when you’ve been together for nearly a decade, it’s inevitable that you’ll talk about marriage at some point…so from that perspective, it wasn’t a surprise.
but for becca, in every other way, kevin totally got her.
on a beautiful, sunny june day, we decided to drive up to uconn — a favorite spot, of course — for ice cream at the world famous dairy bar, a visit with the cows on horsebarn hill, and to reminisce as we walked around campus. as a couple who chronically forgets to take pictures together, despite kevin’s interest in photography, we planned to take some photos in our favorite spots.
at the top of horsebarn hill, kevin set up his camera to take a picture of us (and audra pup, of course.) while becca and audra posed in place — and tried not to get too distracted by cows / being outdoors — kevin came over and and handed becca a card.
it’s important to note that especially after years of being long distance, greeting cards have become one of our love languages. that, plus becca mentioned to kevin (when they first started dating) how much she loves getting and giving greeting cards, regardless of how cheesy it may seem. Kevin took note.
the card on top of horsebarn hill was an exact copy of the very first card kevin gave becca, just a few weeks into the beginning of their relationship. becca recognized it immediately. kevin’s message shared that SHORTLY AFTER MAKING THE RELATIONSHIP “official” he went back to the store and picked up a second copy of the card, knowing he’d want to use it for something special, SOMEDAY.
for nearly ten years, kevin held onto that card.
by the time becca finished reading the card, she looked up and kevin was down on one knee with the ring they designed together. the response was an easy yes (actually, she said ‘of course!!’)
the kicker? the camera kevin set up when we first got to the top of the hill recorded the whole proposal.
